Using Ability Drive with the Eyegaze Edge

Ability Drive uses the Eyegaze Edge to operate wheelchair controls using your eyes.  In order to work, the Ability Drive software needs to access the Eyegaze Edge eyetracking hardware and software which provides gaze information that controls the device.  Only one program can access the eyetracking hardware and software at a time, so it’s not possible to use gaze-driven Windows control software to launch the gaze-driven Ability Drive software.

The Eyegaze Edge ECS menu program can be used to launch other programs which make use of the eyetracker.
To add Ability Drive to the ECS menu program, you use the Eyegaze Edge Settings program.

After launching the EyegazeEdgeSettings program, please select the Menu Items page.

On the lower right of the Menu Items settings page, you’ll see Menu Item Label, and Program Path:
Here you provide an on-screen label for Ability Drive, and the path to the Ability Drive program.   You can type the program path in or use the Browse for Program button to navigate to the Ability Drive program and add it to the ECS menu.

When you’re done, Ability Drive will be added to the ECS Menu.  Starting the ECS Menu program, called Eyegaze Edge, you’ll now have Ability Drive available:
