Eyeworld | UIRT Setup

The UIRT is a universal IR receiver and transmitter. It can learn the actions of any IR remote and transmit them back out through the Eyeworld interface. If you'd like to inquire about purchasing a UIRT for your Eyegaze device, please contact orders@eyegaze.com. 

A quick test to find out if a remote is IR (compatible) is by pointing the remote away from a controlled device and pressing a button. If you are still able to control that device without the remote being directly pointed at it, it's most likely not IR and the UIRT cannot be used with it. Be sure to test this with multiple buttons, since some remotes are hybrids that use both IR and RF. 

1. Download and install the UIRT drivers, the download link can be found here.

1a. If your Chrome pops up with this message, press "Keep" which will allow the driver to download.

2. Open Windows File Explorer and navigate to the Downloads tab, you should see the driver download "Win7_Win8_Win10_Vista...".

3. Right click on the file and select "Extract All" and "Extract" on the next pop up.

4. Connect your UIRT into any open USB port on your Eyegaze Edge, you should have an open port on the USB hub located at the back of the tablet.

5. Press the Windows button on your keyboard or swipe up near the bottom of your screen to pull up the Windows search bar, and search for "Device Manager".

6. Scroll down until you see a title named "Universal Serial Bus Controllers" and click the arrow left of the title, this should reveal a list of other names.

7. Look for and right click on "USB-UIRT Device", select "Update driver" then "Browse my computer for drivers".

8. Ensure that the checkbox next to "Include subfolders" is check marked and click on the "Browse.." button.

9. In the small popup you want to navigate to the driver you downloaded earlier by selecting This PC > Downloads > "Win7_Win8_Win10_VIsta...".

10. Lastly you can hit "OK" then "Next", that should complete the setup for your UIRT drivers.

1. Select the Mind Express 5 Menu button on the top left then select Settings > Environmental Control.

2. Switch "USB-UIRT" to "Yes".

3. Select which type of device you want to control on the left side menu. For example, if you are controlling a TV, select "TV".

4. Click the + icon and make sure that under "Communication system used" it's set to "USB-UIRT", optionally you can set a name for the device.

5. You can now setup the IR controls by selecting the button you want to teach and then selecting the record icon.

6. Bring your remote controller within 6 inches of the UIRT and point it at the black window on the front of the UIRT.

7. Once you click the record icon, press and hold the button on your remote controller that you want it to learn. The red LED on the front of the UIRT will flash as it detects the IR code coming from the remote controller. The flashing "Learning" text should change into "Learned", you can press "OK" and continue syncing the rest of your buttons.

8. Once the setup is complete, navigate to "Environmental Control" in Eyeworld, and select the device that was set up in the previous step.

9. All of the buttons that were set up can now be selected and your UIRT will transmit their respective IR codes. Ensure your UIRT window is facing the device you want to control and that the UIRT has "line of sight" to the device being controlled.
